A case of non‐spherocytic haemolytic anaemia is presented. A subnormal pyruvate kinase activity in the patient's erythrocytes was demonstrated. The in vitro haemolysis of the patient's red cells could be corrected by addition of adenosinetriphosphate. Some family members had also depressed pyruvate kinase activity, without any other haematological abnormalities. The inheritance of the defect is discussed.
