Mixed cultures containing lymphocytes from human cord blood and from adult donor blood were studied. A higher degree of blastoid transformation of the lymphocytes was found in mixed cord lymphocyte cultures than in mixed adult lymphocyte cultures. There was a positive correlation between the immaturity of the cord blood samples, judged from the number of erythroblasts in the cord blood smears, and the reactivity on mixed cord/adult lymphocyte cultures.
