Two groups of guinea pigs were subjected to hypoxia at altitude equivalents of 10,000 ft. and 20,000 ft. respectively. Changes in the blood and spleen were observed over a period of 5 days. In the blood there were more and younger reticulocytes at 20,000 ft. than at 10,000 ft. In both groups polycythaemia developed. There was no change in the weight of the spleen at 10,000 ft. but a highly significant increase at 20,000 ft.
