A simple method for the determination of the incorporation of H 3 ‐thymidine in cultured lymphocytes is described. The cells are broken up by treatment with papain at 65° C. Nucleic acids are then precipitated with a quaternary ammonium compound. The water insoluble complex is dissolved in methanol and the radioactivity determined in a liquid scintillation spectrometer. The method offers special advantage when large number of cultures have to be studied.
