Human fraction I was transfused into an adult patient with factor XIII deficiency. Tooth extractions were performed on the day of transfusion and three days later without any abnormal bleeding. The disappearance of factor XIII activity was followed for nine days. Six hours after transfusion about 50 per cent of the transfused activity could be recovered in the blood of the patient and the half‐life of factor XIII was estimated to be about four‐five days. The present observations and reports in the literature suggest that factor XIII is haemostatically effective in quite low concentrations.
