Methyl methacrylate was first reported as a cause of contact dermatitis in 1941 (1, 2). In 1954, 2 cases were reported of occupational contact dermatitis due to acrylates in dentists (3). Since then, many cases have been published of different acrylic substances as sources of contact dermatitis in dentistry (4-9) as well as in other occupations (10-12). Later there were also reports of sensitization to acrylates in domestic exposures, e.g., nails (13) and clothing (14).
