The raw materials of some perfume ingredients contain stabilisers to inhibit spontaneous degradation during storage. Hence, when patch testing with such ingredients it is at least theoretically possible that such stabilisers may be responsible for reactions to these ingredients. One example is the use of diphenylamine in amyl cinnamic aldehyde and hexyl cinnamic aldehyde. It is included at a concentration of 0.1 %. The members of the ICDRG therefore carried out routine patch testing with diphenylamine (1 % pet.) on a consecutive series of eczema patients. The results were as follows:
