Among the objects recovered at Tayma in 1884 by J. Euting and C. Huber was a small fragment of a stone relief. Overshadowed by the more impressive “Tayma stone” and by the inscriptions found on the site, this small fragment remained unaccessioned in the Louvre until 1986, although a drawing of it had been published as early as 1887. The present paper discusses the piece, suggesting that it shows affinities to Neo‐Assyrian art. The wider implications of this attribution for our perception of Tayma in the Neo‐Assyrian period are briefly sketched.
