In a field study, three age groups (1935, 1945 and 1955) in a German city will be tested by questionnaires and a half standardized interview. The hypotheses relate in a descriptive way to the rates of prevalence and incidence of the psychogenic diseases of the ICD numbers 300–307. In the follow‐up study after three years, the prognosis will be compared with the actual state of health of the proband. Various rating scales will be used for the measurement of complex variables (e.g. social integration). A general characterization of the ratings will be given. Then the intuitive rating will be compared with the rating on the basis of a concept.
