The investigation is made on a basic material consisting of 326 patients treated under the diagnosis of paralysis agitans and Parkinsonism or its synonyms at clinics under neurological supervision. After a study of the case-notes and as a result of the genealogical investigations, 44 probands are excluded from the series. The reasons for their omission are e . g . only brief casenotes and no possibility of making a follow-up examination since the patient had died; born out of wedlock or abroad. 282 patients remain for the field investigations. In this process the material is once more sorted and a further 32 cases excluded (patients found to be suffering from chronic encephalitis, those that showed no signs of paralysis agitans or Parkinsonism a t the follow-up examination, etc.) . 250 probands finally remain for further analysis.
