Clinical and basic research is necessary to improve neurological treatment. Such research should be a major responsibility both for universities and hospitals. The funding for this research is to an increasing degree linked to research and publication result. For the specialist education in neurology, it is a challange to combine the training with research activity. The Norwegian Neurological Association intends to stimulate research. The annual national conference is a key instrument for this, and included 93 free, original scientific presentations in 2006. Publishing selected contributions in this supplement should be regarded as a further research‐stimulating activity, reflecting the focus on research in Norwegian neurology.
