The HVA‐concentration in the spinal fluid was determined weekly in 12 patients with Parkinson's syndrome during the administration of L‐dopa in doses increasing up to the optimum. The HVA concentration in the spinal fluid increased proportionally to the L‐dopa up to a dose of 5 g/day. In the spinal fluid, it showed no correlation to the clinical effect of L‐dopa on the parkinsonian symptoms.
