After 25 years of conflict style‐collective bargaining, certain colleges and universities within the United States are beginning to experiment with interest‐based or collaborative bargaining, using models taken from industrial experiments. This article describes the early experiences with interest‐based bargaining as practiced at two public universities. The bistorical development of interest‐based bargaining is provided, followed by a description of the process and outcomes of the use of the bargaining techniques at the two universities
