Virus pathogens of pigs were administered, orally or by inoculation, to the cockroach Blatta orientalis. Groups of insects were examined microbiologically at intervals afterwards. Porcine parvovirus (strain 59e/63) was shown to be retained for more than a week when given orally, and for 3 weeks when inoculated into the haemocoele, but T.G.E. virus was not recovered from the insects. The significance of the result to the spread of disease is discussed.
