Eu‐doped β‐SiAlON phosphor powders were prepared by a highly efficient combustion synthesis method. By adjusting the starting compositions and choosing appropriate reaction conditions, Si 6− z Al z O z N 8− z :Eu 2+ powders having z values ranging from 0.25 to 2.0 could be synthesized within a few minutes. Phase compositions and particle morphologies of the synthesized powders were characterized and their photoluminescence properties were measured. The phosphors could be excited over a broad spectral range in the UV‐visible region and emit green light. Effects of compositions of the β‐SiAlON:Eu 2+ phosphors such as z values on the intensity and wavelength of the emission spectra were examined.
