A quantitative model describing the densification of porous compacts using liquid solutions that takes into account the gradual sealing‐off of the porosity has been proposed. The model was applied to experimental data on densification of alumina compacts and alumina fiber‐reinforced ceramic composites infiltrated by an aqueous CrO 3 solution. The results obtained with the present model were in good agreement with those expected based on the statistical models and computer simulations of the packing of spheres. Recommendations to improve the efficiency of the densification of porous materials using precursor solutions are suggested based on the results of the present work.
