In the present work we have found that microcalorimetry might be a useful method to record pinocytosis in Amoeba proteus . Sodium‐induced (67 mM) and potassium‐induced (75 mM) pinocytosis caused an increase in heat output of 130 and 325%, respectively. Heat production during lysozyme‐induced (0.43 mg/ml) pinocytosis increased about 100%.
