Experiments with Tetrahymena thermophila using ferritin probes revealed that these cells take up ferritin conjugated to antibodies (not directed against Tetrahymena ) much more readily than they do ferritin or cationized ferritin. The massive and rapid uptake of antibody‐ferritin offers certain advantages for studies of endocytosis and membrane flow in cells of this type, and the method may be applicable to other types of protozoa as well.
