SYNOPSIS. A procedure is described for the isolation of flagella of Crithidia fasciculata . Herpetomonas samuelpessoai and Leishmania tarentolae in a highly purified state and giving reasonably good yield. The 3 types of flagella give a similar electrophoretic pattern of proteins. It is shown that H. samuelpessoai and, to a lesser extent, C. fasciculata flagella confer protection against Trypanosoma cruzi infection.
