SYNOPSIS An avian piroplasm, Nuttallia balearicae sp. n., is described from captive Balearica p. pavonina and B. p. gibbericeps. Other avian piroplasms and their validity and taxonomic status are discussed. The possible route of transmission of these parasites is also considered.
