SYNOPSIS. Studies that accounted for all the cilia and cirri in sample specimens from several populations of Pleurotricha Lanceolata show the extent to which ciliary and cirral patterns can vary within a species. It is suggested that these variations may account for some of the conflicting descriptions of this species in the literature.
