SYNOPSIS. A study of the fine structure of the cortex of the ciliate Drepanomonas dentata revealed that it has a double cuticular membrane with a “lamina corticalis” and fibrous trichocysts with a quadripartite apical point. These characters warrant its assignment to the family Microthoraddae.
