SYNOPSIS. Extracts of Tetrahymena pyriformis S in 50% glycerol contain an unstable enzyme capable of catalyzing the incorporation of ATP† or CTP into soluble RNA. Prior treatment of the sRNA with snake venom diesterase greatly enhances its ability to prime CTP incorporation. The properties of the enzyme suggest that it is an RNA‐adenylate (cytidylate) pyrophosphorylase.
