SUMMARY. According to Kahl the trichostome genus Trichopelma may be considered to include five species: T. sphagnetanim, T. eurystoma, T. euglenivora, T. opaca , and T. torpens. A sixth species is added in the present account. The following constant characteristics distinguish it from the five earlier described ones: total lack of trichocysts; differences in the morphology of the body surfaces; dissimilarity of the upper and lower surfaces in shape (one plane, the other convex), in ciliation, and in number of cuticular furrows; unique location of the contractile vacuole.
