  Publishing in journals is important for hiring and promotion, and just as importantly it is a means for building scholarly community and advancing intellectual inquiry. In this essay, I provide suggestions for navigating the process of submitting article manuscripts to journals and making decisions regarding where to publish. These comments are directed at anthropologists, but many of the points made may be germane to scholars in other disciplines.
