This paper presents a new approach to contraceptive behavior–an approach that draws on research and theory in the areas of memory and information processing. The approach generates a model for predicting both pregnancy risk taking and risk‐avoidance behaviors. This model integrates descriptive findings in the contraceptive literature and is supported by a preliminary laboratory study.
