A national survey of nurse educators was conducted to assess their opinions on publication credit assignments. Data were collected using 22 scenario items modified from a questionnaire developed by Spiegel and Keith‐Spiegel (1970) and adapted by Werley, Murphy, Gosch, Gottesman and Newcomb (1981). Questionnaires were distributed to 431 nurse educators; 229 (52.6%) completed questionnaires were returned. The data were analyzed to identify points of agreement that were selected by more than 50 percent of the respondents. These points are summarized as possible guidelines for publication credits. The findings have implications for nurse educators and nurse researchers.
