The reviewers' [1] comments generally relate to the design and development of multiple regression‐based appraisal models, a subject area of great promise and open to further research, although somewhat broader than the specific issues addressed in the authors' paper [5]. The purpose of this reply is to briefly restate the nature and conclusions of that paper and to offer comment upon the broader, more important, questions of model development raised by the reviewers.
