The present age demands the conquest of the spoken language. An efficient means to obtain this aim is the “semidirect method”: Classes are conducted in the foreign language with convenient interruptions in the student's native tongue to control his comprehension. An outline of this method as used at Quito, Ecuador. Necessary provisions in its adoption with U. S. students.
