Author's summary.— This brief list of possibilities for discussing reflective thinking in foreign language classes in connection with necessary work, with application in and out of the immediate area of study, can no doubt be extended by others. It is meant to be suggestive. Such activities would justify the foreign language teacher in thinking that he contributes to teaching reflective thinking, even though this contribution may be slight by comparison with the possibilities in English. It would not be the sole justification for teaching foreign language, but it would be an added contribution, which is sometimes claimed but often not lived up to in foreign language classes.
