Author's summary.— Haber and estar have come to an almost stable division of the locative field. The division of function which they now share is based on the concept of definiteness and indefiniteness. When the entity to be located is grammatically definite estar translates “to be”; when the entity is indefinite haber translates “to be.” This division of function contradicts the statement found in most grammars that haber “stresses mere existence.”
