Infusion of Low Molecular Weight Dextran (LMWD) can result in the serum of a patient causing aggregation of red blood cells if enzyme technics are used for subsequent crossmatching for blood transfusion. LMWD infusion is not likely to obscure the demonstration of an antibody in the patient's serum. Experiments in vitro designed to assess the extent of the effect of LMWD on various enzyme technics are described.
