The rise in Factor VIII levels following paired infusions of cryoprecipitate prepared from normal and acidified plasma was studied in a group of patients with hemophilia A. In four of the six patients there was a greater than 50 per cent reduction in the in vivo recovery of Factor VIII following infusion of the acidified product. The pattern of Factor VIII disappearance over the first hour after infusion was similar in both groups. This implies that the loss in Factor VIII activity in cryoprecipitate prepared from acidified plasma cannot be restored following in vivo buffering.
