titered group 0 blood was sent to clearing companies where the blood was used for purposes of resuscitation. By means of helicopter, it was posible to resupply clearing companies within 30 minutes. Reactions to blood were minimal, with only one death due to hemolytic reaction. This was due to an error in patient identification. Wastage of blood due primarily to outdating was 31 per cent. Outdating was due to blood being stocked for possible battles that did not occur. The average number of units transfused per patient was 4.3, with some patients receiving 40 to 50 units.-L. R. G.
