Ulex europeus anti‐H reacts best at low temperatures, is insensitive to 2‐mercaptoethanol treatment, and possesses some molecules which combine irreversibly with the H antigen although most reverse readily. Probit assays revealed qualitative variations among human adult H antigens, positively correlated with the ABO phenotype, and characteristic of each of them. A hypothesis is advanced that relates these qualitative differences to steric influences of the various A and B determinants on the H receptor detected with Ulex.
