The field of the human blood groups has become so vast and complex that it is impossible to do justice to the subject in a short review such as this. Therefore, this presentation has been limited mainly to those aspects of the A‐B‐O, M‐N and Rh‐Hr types of man and lower primates which illustrate principles of fundamental significance from the point of view of the nature of serological specificity, and of biochemical evolution.
