A serum containing anti‐Rh o and anti‐Sm was analyzed. Characteristics of the latter antibody are described. The Sm antigen was shown to be genetically controlled and unrelated to the A‐B‐O, M‐N‐S, Lewis and Kidd systems. Over 600 random persons were found to be Sm positive.
