Complex regional pain syndrome (type I, RSD; type II, causalgia): controversies. (The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, OH) Clin J Pain 2000;16:S33–S40. In this review, the relationship of sympathetically maintained pain and sympatholysis is examined, particularly as a neuropathic process that is found in many conditions including complex regional pain syndromes. This review also focused on recent observations proposing a pathologic basis in support of diagnosis and treatment of these disorders.
