Perineal urethrostomies were performed on 35 cats. All cats were asymptomatic when examined an average of 48.4 months following surgery. Eleven cats (31%) had episodes of dysuria during the postoperative period. Two of the 11 and six additional cats (23%) had positive urine cultures (> 10 5 organisms/ml) at the time of examination.
