The wheelchair is now commonly used as a place for lengthy sitting. The construction of the collapsible wheelchair provides a hard unyielding seat, with no support for the patient's head and shoulders. Thus, the radial nerve is dangerously exposed to damage, and the development of gluteal pressure ulcers is encouraged. Case reports are presented, and proposals are made for improvements in wheelchair design.
