In 1977 the Ohio State Legislature directed all Ohio medical schools to establish offices of geriatrics/gerontology supported with specific funds. The offices were given the responsibility to institute curricular changes that would establish a focus upon aging and health problems of the elderly. By 1981, extensive curricular enrichment was apparent at the Medical College of Ohio in all phases of medical education, from the preclinical years through residency training programs and into continuing medical education.
