Upon admission to a nursing home, a 79‐year‐old woman with peripheral arteriosclerosis had a large (10 times 17.5 cm) raw painful ulcer of the left leg. She had had the ulcer for five years and, ten months before admission, had undergone an aorto‐femoral bypass with sympathectomy. Gold leaf therapy was started but was discontinued after two years for a trial of other methods. These were unsuccessful. After another two‐year course of gold leaf therapy, the ulcer was healed. The length of time that elapsed before healing emphasizes the need for perseverance.
