The establishment of a Geriatric Day Care Center at Trenton Psychiatric Hospital is described under the headings of physical environment, the program, staffing, and inter‐staff relationships. The purpose of the Center is to provide more comprehensive and effective services for the elderly. The social reinforcement, physical care and psychiatric aspects of the program are geared toward the acquisition of new skills and the relearning of old ones, to create a strong self‐image for the patient in dealing with the problems of old age and retirement.
