While the ailing aged population is increasing, the citadels of medical teaching and training continue to accord low priority to the dire need for education in the care and clinical management of the elderly. The pace of care and the mounting costs of general hospitals make it imperative for chronic disease hospitals to cope with the many complex problems. It is fitting, therefore, to foster suitable programs in Geriatric Medicine. A brief outline is presented of a Fellowship training program in Geriatric Medicine in the setting of a chronic disease hospital. Since local problems will require local solutions, modifications of these programs are inevitable.
