The clinical manifestations of chronic renal failure are manifold and may masquerade as either “functional” or organic symptoms unrelated to the kidney. The main complications are metabolic, cardiovascular, gastroenterologic and neurologic. The etiology and pathogenesis of chronic renal insufficiency are surveyed and general outlines of treatment are discussed.
