This period of rapid change in our society engenders much psychological stress for the elderly. Ways for maintaining mental health in old age are discussed. A fundamental factor in modern management is the recognition that the emotional problems of the aged are the same as those in younger persons; there is no specific pattern after age 65. The preventive aspects of psychiatry should be increasingly stressed.
