A bstract : The therapeutic value of arts and crafts in dealing with the chronically ill in a geriatric hospital is discussed. In the Arts and Crafts Department at Maimonides Hospital and Home for the Aged in Montreal, approximately 65 patients are offered a full range of activities and are provided with both physical and mental stimulus. Through such activities which cater to the needs of the elderly, a measure of self‐esteem, independence, productivity and socialization can be restored.
