A bstract : A plan is outlined for the evaluation and management of the impotent male. The physiology of erection and the causes of impotence are discussed. Each case must be thoroughly studied to eliminate organic causes (which usually indicate specific endocrine therapy) before psychiatric treatment is started. A last resort is implantation of a penile prosthesis.
