A bstract : This unusual case of prolonged fever (peaks of 102°‐105° F daily followed by drenching sweats) was caused by a necrotizing carcinoma of the adrenal. The patient was a 47‐year‐old man. Intensive investigation did not demonstrate anything that would account for the prolonged fever. Finally an exploratory laparotomy revealed a primary carcinoma of the adrenal cortex. Within seventy‐two hours after removal of the tumor, the fever disappeared. The patient was afebrile at the time of discharge from the hospital and has remained so despite declining strength.
