A bstract : A diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis in a 52‐year‐old woman was confirmed by hematologic and serologic studies. Epstein‐Barr (EB) virus antibodies were present in her serum. The incidence of this disease in older people may be much higher than previously suspected. Heterophile tests should be performed in those patients manifesting significant lymphocytosis. The determination of EB virus antibody provides an additional means of diagnosis.
